Notes: Equipment Evolution
Blichmann 50l is the mash tun, with the new original false bottom, because the malt bill is too big for the Robobrew. We can also do a step mash with Blichmann 50l.
Robobrew is our boil kettle because his capacity is 30 litres and that is our wort volume going into the kettle AND he fits perfectly under the Blichmann 50l for a gravity transfer.
Mash water just clears the false bottom at 19 litres, so we are adjusting the mash water to 20 + 3 x #kg in mash = 44 litres.
We will adjust sparge water accordingly to get 30 litres for the boil.
Left over last runnings can be used for a low alcohol beer second beer with another yeast (Session IPA??).
I will be surprised if my final gravity is 1.015 since I have very high attenuation in most of my beers and I really want a dry finish to follow the Trappist style exactly. So, I am OK with with the ABV estimate of less than 9% because I will probably hit that in the final product.
Mash schedule following Duvel model from "The Secrets of the Master Brewers", p. 151. |

Notes: This IPA style was pioneered in the North Eastern United States in New England. Known for its huge dry hop additions, extreme haziness, and fruit-forward aroma and taste, the hype train has made its way all the way around the world. The haze bros will accept nothing less!
Here is our 20 litre all-grain NEIPA recipe. Inspired by recipes from some of the best breweries in the States, it has near zero bitterness and a huge amount of citrus and stone fruit flavour and aroma. Our recipe comes in around 10 IBUs, while still using 100 grams of Citra and 100 grams Mosaic. It looks like orange juice, and, well, tastes pretty similar too. Rolled oats, rolled wheat and carapils add a pillowy mouthfeel, and the English ale yeast leaves a bit of sweetness to the finish. Coming in close to 7%, it is still crushable. Enjoy!

Notes: Treat water with gypsum and mash grains for 1 hr at 157F. Boil for 70 min total, adding hops as indicated. To increase alcohol and dry out the beer, optionally add honey or corn sugar at the end of the boil.
Partial Mash version: Mash six-row and acidulated malt with flaked corn at 157F for 1 hr. Substitute 5.5lb Pilsner malt extract syrup. Drain mini-mash and sparge to desired boil volume; dissolve extract in wort, then proceed to boil. |

Notes:
hop stand it for 30 mins to get IBU after boil.
no starter - see if it works for standard OG beers.
***rebrew***
seriously sticky mash, increase rice hulls significantly, and use a thinner mash @ 1.5qt/lb
otherwise tasty, perhaps dry hopping for more aroma next time and some color malts to get it orangey.
also a small bittering charge could be useful? |
