Notes: A nice , easy, quaff-able ale to test out my new Chugger Pump set up. I made a starter with two smack packs of nearly out-dated WY1056. Both swelled up nicely and look to be quite viable after 36 hours on the stir plate - 5 liters, cold crashed for 18 hours and decanted.
*Update: Nailed my mash temp and water volumes by adding about 1/2 gallon to account for pump and hose losses. O.G.: 1.054. |

Arguably Ireland’s most famous export, dry stout has a loyal following all over the world. Our kit has a pronounced roasty, coffee-like flavor and aroma, imparted by a generous helping of roasted barley. Hop bitterness enhances the dryness, and the medium body makes for a very drinkable dark beer. This is one of the most popular styles among home brewers; after a few pints, you’ll understand why. |

Notes: Estimated sprage water 23L
Mash Temp Target 64deg @ 90 Mins (dry)
Mash water additions.
- Calcium Chloride 2g
- Bi Carb 3g
- Calcium SUlphate 6g
- Calcium Carbonate 10g
- Epson Salt 4g
- Salt 2g
Wort after boil was 18L, should of been 23L. Mistakenly added to much water so the final amount of wort was 27L! It WAS a ESB or Premium nows its just a bitter. Note: Use lid and decrease boil loss next time.
Mash Strike was 71deg resulted in a mash of about 68. Lower mash strike 2-3 deg from recommendation of sparge pal.
Very Classic tasting English bitter, dry, resin/wood tones from the hops, some toffee & bread like favours in the background but overall mouth feel is light and silky.
