Notes: Yeast is about 1L trub (washed) from the last beer (Black IPA).
ALSO NOTE RE GRAINS: All except for caramunich were actuially GLADFIELD, but the calculator was completely screwing up the mash PH when I used the gladfield presets.
Re: hops the magnum was new, but the hallertau was about 7 months old. Still smelled ok, but not great. Needed the IBU's. |

| Notes: 22 gallons at 162* = 149* mash. Shoot for 5.4ph in mash. After 30 mins, take 8 gallons out and decoct for 15 mins. Then Vorlauf, run off everything, no sparge. Then boil. Added hops at 2 hours 37 minutes. Had to add 1.5 gallons of water to boil so it didn’t dip below the coil in the HLT |

Notes: ======================
updates 1/20/21
knocking down 2row from 16 lbs to use some DME, and some acid malt. may want to build water profile from distilled, depending on other experiments (e.g. weaddababyitsaboy)
inputting hop schedule with "90min blend" at AA 9.3% which is a blend of 2.5oz amarillo at 8%, 0.75oz simcoe @ 13%, 0.5 warrior at 15%. this is what the recipe says. maybe use a whole 1 oz simcoe for even numbers. remember the hop additions will start at 90 minutes out and be added every 5 minutes so separate the total blend into approx 0.2 oz increments or 18 additions.
for yeast i personally think london might be nice on this one, idk why....
==============================
initial recipe input.
brewed this in 2014 before i was recording my recipes. reconstructing it here for the first official time.
unfinished recipe. not sure how to input the hops. maybe define a new 90 min hop with calculated AA and just put in additions at 90 60 30 and 0.
formulating from this : https://www.homebrewersassociation.org/homebrew-recipe/dogfish-head-90-minute-ipa-clone/
this might be a good brew to try to double mash. |

Notes: Update 7/22/2019 :
I'm changing the yeast attenuation on this because I just measured the FG as being pretty much 1.002. Need to re-evaluate procedures. Possibly overpitching yeast (NO) or mashing too long / not mashing out properly, plus should start adding some crystal malt in there. On the other hand, if so desired - the beer is probably closer to 9% so it would be nice to hit the correct abv but the beer is good, thin bodied, but not as dry as i would expect given what i just found out. perhaps for dipa and tripa this is fine. for my stouts though not so much.
Update 6/10/19 :
rebrewing the "I got nothing" grain yeast and all, this time using one pound of columbus hops for the brew. will do 4 oz regular dry hop and put the other 4oz suspended in the keg.
=====================
Update 5/16/19
I accidentally added the wheat to another beer. Thewheat planned for this didnt make it in. Boosting up the corn sugar to 1lb to make up some abv.
update 2/12/19:
changing this for sort of a west coast double ipa spin off. the first beer was pretty good, good hop flavor and bitterness, good everyday beer. this one would be more of a west coast style hop bomb. also going for clear beer (both in appearance and body) this time so axed the oats and london yeast in leui of corn sugar and american ale yeast (may use american ale ii since i have some). will need to cold crash properly as well. also thinking of a different spin off of this in NEIPA style, should be elsewhere in the archives....
===========================================
kinda made up on brew night.
C5 hop is a combo of cascade centennial citra columbus and chinook. i had more on hand of cascade and centennial so i did 1.2 centennial and 1.3 cascade , 1oz everything else for a total of 6 oz used. calculated the weighted average of the AA, hopefully that checks out.
using reused london ale yeast from a previous batch amber lamps. the yeast was never taken out of the fermentor. (taking half of the yeast to use on a barleywine im also brewing tonight) |
