Notes: Bring 8.5 gallons of water to 158F mash temp. Mash for 90 minutes at 151F. Drain & batch sparge with 2 gallons of room temperature water for 10 minutes.
The boil volume should be 8 gallons. Boil for 120 minutes to bring the water volume down to 6 gallons. Follow the hop schedule.
Ferment for 3-4 weeks. Bottle condition at room temperature for an additional 4 weeks. Chill and serve. |

Notes: George Washington was a big tent guy, so that's why this recipe splits the difference on all sorts of things. And a lot of symbolism, because every good revolution does symbolism well.
Flaked stuff variety is a nod to all the grains that George tried to grow profitably. (He failed.)
Molasses because of the rum trade and how important that was to smuggling, and of course rum.
Double up on the chloride, maybe more.
Yeast is whatever. Continentals had to fight with whatever was on hand, so tally-ho!
v1.1 cut the flaked to 1# each, upped sugars to 2#. cut some d/h hops from 5 to 4 oz.

Instruktioner för "grumlig mäskning" (turbid mash):
1. Blanda malt och vete med 3,1 liter vatten i Kärl A (huvudsaklig gryta el. dyl.).
15 minuters rast vid 45°C.
2. Addera 2,8 liter vatten i Kärl A.
Det är nu totalt 6,1 liter vatten i Kärl A.
15 minuters rast vid 52°C.
3. Ta bort 1,9 liter grumlig vätska från Kärl A – häll denna i Kärl B (t.ex. en gryta).
Låt den grumliga vätskan i Kärl B ha rast vid 88°C tills vidare – OBS: vätskan i Kärl B bör kontinuerligt röras om så att den inte bränner fast i botten.
4. Addera 4,2 liter vatten i Kärl A.
Det är nu totalt 8,2 liter vatten i Kärl A.
45 minuters rast vid 65°C.

10 minuters rast vid 88°C.
