Notes: Did a 1.5L starter
Will pitch the starter and an additional pack of yeast.
Lagered for 5 weeks at 34F
Finished at 1.021= 4.5%, don't think I pitched enough yeast.
Kegged on 5/2/2016 with 30psi, shook for a couple minutes and let it sit. Will shake every day at 30 psi for 4 days then see.
Tastes really good! easy drinking. chococlatey and roasty with a clean finish.
Next time i brew this i will use less dark malts..

Notes: Tea additions should be made at Flameout and during secondary fermentation. Tea-bags can be substituted instead of whole leaf and petals. 4 bags at flameout and 6 bags in secondary. Monitor daily when dry-hopping with the tea bags and rack off when you hit the desired profile, as the flavor can intensify quickly. A warm ferment and a long secondary are essential to a good saison. |

A multiple gold medal winner at the Colorado State Fair, this decadent vanilla porter
is sure to raise eyebrows. Most vanilla beer
recipes use one or two vanilla beans; this
one uses five and has the base recipe to
back them up. A rich, smooth porter with
hints of rum and molasses behind a coffee-
like roasted character, then infused with
fragarant vanilla. The beans used in this kit
are 100% Madagascar bourbon beans that provide deep, sweet flavor. The final pint emanates a heady vanilla perfume and makes for both a wonderful after-dinner drink or the ultimate ice cream float.
- Urca Vanilla Bean Blend – cut into approximately 1
/2" pieces and add to secondary fermenter
one week before bottling day |

Notes: While beer is in primary fermentation, soak 1/2 oz shredded coconut, 2 oz cacao nibs, and 1 vanilla bean (halved and scraped) in light rum for about a week. Then rack beer on top of these ingredients in secondary, as well as 6 oz more coconut, but toast this in oven until golden brown (be careful not to burn - only took about 6 min at 400°). Leave in secondary at least one more week, then bottle. |
