Notes: Shooting for 6.5% and 40 IBU's
Sierra Nevada's No Place Like Oz is a limited-release American IPA, and the brewery has not released the official recipe for homebrewers. However, key ingredients and flavor profiles have been shared by Sierra Nevada, allowing for an informed clone recipe.
The beer is brewed with Australian-origin hops and features prominent notes of citrus and spice.
Key ingredients and characteristics
Malts: Two-row pale malt and Golden Promise wheat.
Hops: Australian varieties are the focus, including Galaxy, Comet, Ella, and Eclipse.
ABV: 6.5%.
IBU: 40.

Instructions
Mash: Heat 4.5 gallons of water to 166°F, then add crushed grains. Target a mash temperature of 152°F and hold for 60 minutes.
Sparge: Once the mash is complete, raise the temperature to 170°F for a mash-out. Sparge with 4 gallons of 170°F water to collect the wort.
Boil: Bring the wort to a boil and follow the hopping schedule. The total boil time should be 60 minutes.
60 minutes: Add 1 oz. of Galaxy.
10 minutes: Add 1 oz. of Galaxy and 1 oz. of Ella.
Cooling: After the 60-minute boil, cool the wort rapidly to 68°F.
Fermentation: Pitch the yeast and ferment at 68°F.
Dry Hopping: When fermentation begins to slow (around day 5), add the remaining Galaxy, Eclipse, and Comet hops for a dry hop.
Packaging: After fermentation is complete (typically 7–10 days), bottle or keg the beer and allow it to carbonate.

| Notes: We ended up putting all the peels and hibiscus in at flameout. As well as .1 oz tettnanger at 10 minutes left in boil. We also got a little frisky and squeezed a quarter grapefruit, a quarter lemon, and a quarter orange in at flameout. This was an experimental batch that I made with friends and I had a lot of fun. It was their first time brewing so it was a good experience, easy and quick brew day. |

Collect approximately 6.5 gallons (24.6 L) of wort and boil 60 minutes, adding hops and Whirlfloc per the indicated schedule. Whirlpool (or steep whirlpool hops in hot wort before chilling) 10 minutes, then chill to 64° F (18° C) and pitch yeast. Ferment at 10 days or until specific gravity stabilizes at or near 1.012 (3° P).
Rack to secondary and add dry hops. Allow to condition on dry hops for 5 days before packaging with 2.6 volumes (5.2 g/L) CO2. |
