now.

WOW! I'm staying off this thread...too depressing your gardens and bines are just looking so much better than mine.

What are your varieties there @FrostyBeach ?

Hmmm...new thread fodder?

Show me your compost pile?

The old one, a freebie plastic round thing gave in so on to more freebie construction and move on the good stuff...6 wheelbarrow trips later and here we are.....I think it needs a roof...

I'm a serious composter myself Ward.
I will build some bays Like you've got going there.
Here are my composting options

Pile 1 this is my lawn clipping - shredded paper- chook poo- dead rodents , chooks animals- cardboard and heavy garden waste (prunings) this is a two part pile.

Pile two is second part of above pile

This is post compost ready for mulching garden full of worms all broken down goodies.

Smells so good no odours which is important it means it's well compost and ready for plants.
This one below is "old betsy" she digests all my kitchen scraps mainly

As you see she is full of compost worms as well I've got a compost screw I mix this baby with

Another option is my worm farm that sorta works it's in an old bin it's got an opening at bottom to collect castings

And lost option for recycling my household waste is these two little Australorp crosses

They give me eggs back in return and provide me with a bit of entertainment.

Well as you can see this is one of my other hobbys making compost I absolutely love the whole process :)

Yeah buddy! That was a really nice part of moving the old pile to the new spot. It smelled great...rich dirt!

And another bay is part of the plan. I don't have a bunch of lawn but man I got the trees so lots of brown biomass to work with and put back into the ground is there. Gonna hafta check out that worm farm option....

I need to get going on doing something a bit more systematic than I do now (I just throw organic rubbish in a pile against my fence).
Got to make sure I don't only get termites in there though

Man the termites must be bad where your at?
We got plenty here btw.
I'll turn my pile every other time to get some aerobic activity going in there this should also keep them little bastards at bay.
Turning for me it's throwing the heap over one with the mulch fork (great little upper body workout):)

How often do you turn it Ben?
And how much water do you give it?
Our climates are not too different, so that would give me a good ballpark figure?

Would I be okay in thinking that you pile your rougher (twigs, paper etc) on one heap for a couple of months (turning and watering) and then stsrt a different one for the rough stuff and add finer things (leaves, greens etc) to heap 1?

Yep pretty much I turn them once every couple of months.
I don't water them we get plenty of rain.
Yeah it's pretty rare to have a pile of ready to go of compost.
I usually dig down into the pile to get to the good stuff at the bottom.

I think that's where the bays come in handy 1st bay is the rough stuff second bay is the good stuff just transfer it along.

Speaking of salsa...I finally had some to show for from thus years efforts. This took about as much time as a brew day from pick to pint but it's worth it for some fire roasted flavor in the dead of winter!
