Why pressure fermenting in a Flex+ is a bad idea

If I go that route, I'll have to use a corny as the fermenter since I do not own any fermenters that can be pressurized safely unless a SS Brew Bucket can handle it but I don't think so.

Corny’s work well, the downsides are it can only handle 4 gallons or so and the liquid pick up. Swapping the liquid tube for a floating Top Draw from Williams fixes that.

I have flaoties in 2 of my kegs. Only issue I see is can't put my tilt in there. Oh yeah and I don't have a spunding set up

I got a Tilt mostly in preparation for pressure fermenting in a keg to use with a spunding valve

Tilt will just float around it. I have a center mounted thermowell and a cooling coil on my ferm and tilt works fine

Do you folks have repeaters? The tilt signal isn't as strong in stainless.

They do make one. But i haven't seen a need. I have an ss brewtech 7gal ferm and I can pick up the tilt 20 ft away.
I use a rpi wzero

But once the the stainless is in my ferm chamber (chest freezer) I have to be standing within 5 feet to get a reading.

Indeed it is not. The radio waves are only so strong. In my Flex+ fermenter, I use the optional clear plastic 4" TC cover, which tripled my range. When I ferment inside the fridge, range is again reduced, but I hang the RasPi W zero on the outside of the fridge, near the hole for the CO2 line, and it works fine.

I think where you mount the 'device' talking to your Tilt is kinda flexible, so then the problem becomes WiFi coverage. For that, either reorient your WiFi router or it may be worthwhile to get a cheap WiFi access point and put it near the fermenter.

All of my fermenting is done in the basement and I have the tilts set up on my phone. When I use plastic fermenters, I can get the signal in the kitchen with no issue. It's only when I use the brewtech fermenter that the signal is stunted. I have a wifi pod in the basement for this purpose. What is a 4" TC cover?

The ferm + has a 4" triclamp on the lid. They make a plexi cover so you can see inside

Yeah, TC stands for Tri-Clamp, google it @Frankenbrewer

A Raspberry Pi W Zero is about $10, you need an SD card ($4) and it'll connect to your wireless LAN and can publish your data to a google sheet (and to BF but I've never tried), and your phone can still access it too.

Let me know if you need more info on making that work Clint.

I have mine connect to brewfather. Works really well.

I dunno, I've been pressure fermenting in my Flex+ for a while and haven't had a problem. In my experience, the krausen never really gets that big under pressure. Why would Spike not recommend fermenting under pressure and yet they sell the spunding valve on their site.

And they make it specifically for pressure o_O

A spunding valve is just an adjustable prv with a more precise pressure window.

Effectively a reverse regulator
