Happy New Year!

First attempt at Belgian Dubbel, ABV: 7.5%. Ten weeks old which probably accounts for the sediment moving at about 2/3 of the pour. I kept pouring as this is down as a tester. No gushing, very happy with the carbonation. Head initially quite tight but dissipated fairly soon. For once I have captured the colour at the bottom pretty much as is with the camera. I imagine it will be slightly lighter once the sediment sticks - this is most definately cloudy beer.

Difficult to describe as yet because it is clearly still developing but there is quite a bit going on in there. Some bitterness but within a wider complexity, slightly tangy with elements of dark dried fruits. The fruity almost winey aftertaste lingers and makes this beer very moreish. Dry on the mouth with sweet notes. Should keep me busy (and warm) monitoring this through winter.

Interesting and pleasing start to 2024

The other one has an upstairs party area with balcony looking over the store. They had an ugly sweater party , dj, and raffle. Blast ,
Brilliant idea.

There’s probably 20 of these stores in my area but only two of them have a bar inside. Carts with cup holders too lol. View attachment 27865
Whole Foods in Brea, CA had a bar where my wife and I used to spend some quality time. On one of our visits to Eugene a few years ago, we found the bar in the Whole Foods store. But those days are gone, sadly.

Ruby Ale ABV: 4%. Found two bottles from the Dec 22 batch when tidying up a bit. Head is very thin but apart from that this has matured and sustained brilliantly with great carbonation. No sign of deterioration although I won't push my luck leaving the second bottle beyond the next fortnight or so.

More of my first Dubbel. Sediment still rising no matter how careful I open and pour so deffo needs leaving a bit longer. Picking up on more of the complex taste now though. Bloody lovely beer, can only imagine how good this will be once it has matured.
