What are you doing with homebrew today?

Whatcha brewing Don?
Wayner's pale ale.

This time I'm going to modify the process to help get the beer a lot clearer than the first time I made it. I scored a pile of hops specifically for this because last time it cost me a small fortune. The Brewzilka is set to start heating the water at 5:30 tomorrow morning, I should get there by 6:30 and hopefully I'll be done by noon.

Around mid December, before the quarter ends, I need to try JA's red ale.

You do indeed 15srm will get you roughly around my color for reference...

@Herm_brews still got to recommend the Irish variety
Guinness extra stout is my favorite behind that Murphy’s, third is Guinness Draught which is Better in the can than bottle imo. Edit I forgot. I love Left Hand Milk, make a “clone” of it twice. Quite nice
Josh have you tried Beamish Stout? IMO, about the best there is...of course it's really hard to go wrong with either Murphy's or that one famous brewery from Ireland...

One more good reason to have a keezer...needed a big enough fridge to brine a turkey in a 5 gallon bucket, check.

Busy day today, worked late, put said turkey in brine and then cleaned a keg, pulled gravity sample and kegged my latest batch of Shore Leave, cleaned the Catalyst fermenter(love it so far), and topped it off with cleaning one of the tap lines, installing one of the new Perlick front seal tap faucets and tapping the latest batch of Shady Bohemian.

:D me too!
Not a bad idea Barbarian !

You know for those HBers who have high krausen withdrawal they can watch A few minutes of active foamy fermentation to put there palpitating heart at ease:p!

Not being able to watch fermentation in action is the biggest thing I miss since moving away from glass carboys.

I threw away a bag of malt :(
It didn't smell right anymore.
Not really surprising after more than 1.5 year in storage in a container that would easily have reached 50 oC plus!
What isvsurprising is that the other malt still smells fine (and that's all barley, it's the wheat I had to chuck)

What kind was it? Base malts and roasted malts last nearly forever, Caramels and Crystals oxidize. Raw grain can go rancid. Was it malted wheat?

Malted wheat.
Smelled mouldy
Think it was Maris, but I would need to check to be sure

I'm doing some hop research! I popped open 2 of the light beers that I dosed with a small "dry hop" earlier this week, 9 hops total. So far I've tried Comet and Citra. Comet was very dank/resiny and Citra was fucking delicious, no surprise there :D I love that hop

Bottling up another cider down in the lab

Noooooo
It wasn't
Sorry
Just went through my purchases and everything and it was half of my Simpsons best pale ale. Somehow it got send as 2 x 10 kg instead of 1 x 20. So I got 10 kg left (I think/I hope)

Taking a break from washing bottles. I kegged the 2nd batch of Golden ale and detected no off flavors, which is great news since I used my tap water. Salt and acid additions must have worked to get a clean mash :)

I put the beer QD on my gas post for the 1st time (and probably not last time, honestly). But some frantic googling led me to a good solution and now it's back on the proper post lol

At some point today I'll bottle the Q4 Irish Red and start cleaning the fermenters. Busy busy! :D and of course I'll be on the zoom call later to say hi to all of my imaginary friends!

Here's the golden ale and Irish red:

I've done that too many times to count you cant do that on pin lock I've herd

I kegged up my JA Irish Red yesterday afternoon. This afternoon I checked up on it and found somehow the keg top was open and the lid hanging into the keg. Of course now the CO2 tank is empty and my other beer is crying out to me for CO2.
I put the small 5 pounder (you can see it in the pic above) that I use for purging and what ever. but it is about empty too. I'll have to make a trip to the welding store tomorrow. I had Just refilled my CO2 bottle about one keg ago.
