What are you doing with homebrew today?

I have thought of doing a transfer like that with my speidels, but I figure that the dry hops will block up that liquid post, and ruin my day...

When I have dry hopped I have used a bag. If just tossing them in, won't they settle out into the bottom trub stuff and not bother the transfer?

Good luck with it and please keep us posted as to how it comes out. Trying to clone Big Wave is a noble undertaking indeed!

I have a kegged Blonde Ale right now that was also hopped with Galaxy and Citra (yep, the hops were inspired by Big Wave). I used Galaxy to bitter at 60, and then equal Galaxy/Citra additions at 10 and 0. No dry hops. The good news is that this is an awesome combination of hops. I’m getting a nice citrus/tropical/grapefruit thing that is just super enjoyable and a noticeable bitterness. The downside is that this has far too heavy handed a hop presence when compared to BW. Nothing wrong with that of course, the beer is still really nice, but I’d have to dial it back some if I wanted to mimic Big Wave.
Have you thought of pushing them hops into whirlpool for a comparrison?

When I make this again - and I will definitely make this again - I'm going to have a tough decision to make: 1) try and move the hops presence more towards Kona's Big Wave or 2) don't do anything, because I really like the flavor of the one I just made (though I would reduce the bitterness some, to a more Blonde Ale level.)
The recipe calculator told me I was only mid-20's IBU's but this tastes more like something approaching 40. Could be a lot of reasons for that but I'm pointing the finger at my decision to use Galaxy to bitter at 60. Next time I'll use a more traditional, smooth bittering hop and just save the Galaxy for late.

Amen I think you nailed it on the Galaxy.
I'm sure I've herd this before someone trying to clone a recipie only to create their own beauty:).

I have to bottle off some beers for a friend in Colorado Springs. We're going down there for the evening with friends, I'm getting my birthday dinner at the Edelweiss German Restaurant and that is a treat! Otherwise, trying to find some time to brew a Schneider Weisse homage. Also, I set up a new invitation for the group chat this afternoon, see the thread on the chat for the details. Now back to this six year old beer....

Dubbel Trubbel is at target final gravity of 1.010. Just needs to stay there…
