What are you doing with homebrew today?

Agree. In an era of streaming audio and mp3s, and news/weather/sports on smartphones, radio is kind of irrelevant.

I love those old 70s prog-rock bands. Saw Kansas, opening for Rush in 1976. It was Rush's 2112 tour. RIP Neil Peart.

Back to beer...anyone try the Rush beers that came out a few years ago? I seem to recall hearing they would be distributed only in Canada.
No but liked Iron Maiden’s Trooper. Nice best/strong bitter to me

I’m getting ready to brew my Smooth Stout. For this brew, I’ll be adjusting my mill for a finer, single pass crush, and employing a sparge to try to capture more sweet wort. Wish me luck.
Good luck:)
I might be drinking my home brew on Friday.

I put my heater in the fridgadeezer yesterday. Brought the temperature up nicely, but I'm sure I'm gonna see oscillations. (Time for a Tilt?) I'm thinking the air in the chamber is gonna have to be a control point as well, limiting it to a couple degrees around the optimal temperature for the yeast, and then limiting the batch temperature at the mid-point. I don't want unnecessary temperature cycling, I'm pretty sure of that. The lag of the temperature change in the liquid is going to be too much. I don't think the built-in thermostat in the fridgadeezer can be set above 40F, so too cold for what I need. A second controller to limit the temperature range of the air is gonna have to happen. Knew it would be when I started down this road, so no surprises.

View attachment 23079 This is my grain crush today, using a mill gap of 0.025 inch, with a single pass. Looks good to me, and there is a good amount of flour in the mix.
Looks good. Hopefully this crush takes you home. If not, I still think you could go (a good bit) finer. Just my opinion.

Good luck.

I seem to have hit my pre boil gravity target, and wort volume is about right from the initial mash.
After, draining the grain bag, I sparged to get an addition quart plus of 1.024 wort, then added ~2 cups of that to boost my pre boil volume to 3.75 gallons. Boiling feverishly now:cool:

I bought that once simply because I like Iron Maiden. I fully expected it to just be a cheap tasting gimmick beer that I would never buy again. Turns out it is a really good English Bitter that I buy regularly!
I’ve bought it a few times. Don’t see it enough

Gotta love all the geriatric rock bands that are getting into brewing/distilling now. The Noog (Ted Nugent) has his own line, as well as do KISS and a couple others that I can't remember off the top of my head.

View attachment 23084 Smooth Stout is ready to head for the closet. Came closer to hitting my numbers than I have for several brews, so I’m happy with today’s result. Time for yeast to make beer.
She's a dark one anyhow Herm not much light even getting through the hydrometer sample.

Black hole stout...

According to my recipe, color is 36.6 SRM - I think it came in a little darker. Smells and tastes great, with good stout bitterness (50 ibu’s). I look forward to quaffing some of this by the fireplace. A winter warmer.

So I choose the perfect day to check on my 12 volt solar fridge. Not!
Hardly any sun. Grey, stormy, rain & cold!
But she seems to be running and got cold.
Today I'll be cleaning my baby 220 volt fridge and hopefully be able to fit my 12 ltr soeidel in it. It's gonna be tight.
I've already removed the little sheet that's straight under the freezer compartment and I may have to cut a little of the stopper to reduce height a little more.
I hoped I had another stopper that would fit, but of course, one is too big and the other too small.
My other fermenters will fit (after replacing the airlocks with blow off pipes), but I like the Speidel

Not everything is always easy...
That hole in the speidel stop is big! Bigger than the pipes I thought I could use. I found a piece of general pipe that fits. Not real thight, but a very tight fit in the fridge

Alternative is to use the stopper (bung) that is just too small. Wrap shrink wrap around it to make it a thight fit and then it can stand upright

I'm tempted to go for the last option (all material there is food safe, hopefully shrink wrap is as well)

Pity you can't drop that shelf down a bit to accommodate the fermenter?

You could cut some wooden chocks or make a bracket ...
