Show me your gardening Progress

Better late than never....
I planted garlic today. Only 2 months late.
I also took down my garden fence and posts as I'll be moving the garden a bit and changing shape to rectangular. No more crop circles!
I pulled the last of the onions and they'll go into the turkey for thanksgiving.
The only thing left in is the ruby swiss chard. I'm sure the deer and rabbits will take care of that in short order without the fence being up.
Hopefully tomorrow I'll get garden soil moved and the posts and fence back up.
I saved leek seeds, and plan to plant them along the fence line.
I had random bok choi plants pop up, so pulled them and they'll get added to the next meal that makes sense.
After the perimeter is established, I'll need to get a drain pipe installed to let the water out of the lower rows as the raised beds just create a swimming pool with the spring rains
I may plant more swiss chard, onions and leeks yet, but time will tell as we're in the beginning of winter now.
I did transplant 3 of my hot peppers, Rosemary and Thyme and brought them into the basement to attempt to overwinter them.
Hope everyone is well!
Happy Thanksgiving
Brian

Be sure to keep the leeks away from the drain pipe.

Still waiting for the rim shot.

The radishes are pretty much gone, but we don’t pull up anything until we or the chooks are ready to use it. The few that are left are the biggest red radish I’ve ever seen. Not round like I’m used to seeing, but more like horseradish. Not as hot, though. The chooks got all the table scraps yesterday because we did the Turkey Day thing early with the kids and grandkids so they could go do in-law things on Thursday. The broccoli is getting close. One head is nearly the size of a softball, ranging down to non-existent heads. So, soon some homegrown broccoli. The sprouts are still making plenty chook fodder, but no sign of the wonderful little mini cabbages yet. Cabbages are all tennis ball sized. Carrots are visible, but I’ve never seen anything that grows slower than carrots. Spring onions look too much like tiny weeds still. Romaine lettuce has done what it can for us, but still making plenty chook food. Never thought I’d see the day a tomato vine was a weed, but all the compost I used from last year has THOUSANDS of tomato plants popping up. Frost will get those soon enough. About time to start the second radish crop and see if we get some turnips to come up. I LOVE turnips and a big slab of cornbread. There’s a reason cornbread and turnips are called soul food. Silly strawberries are blooming at the wrongest time of possible. Still curious about the one raised bed that won’t grow anything. Seems too wet. Time to level the beds i think.

Wh
thought I'd share this with the Brewersfriend Crew. we got some broodie hens again ladies and Gents.

and this year its last year's hatchling WTF crazy huh.

hope you enjoy.

15th is possible hatch date so will keep Youse informed

What kinda birds you got? A couple (the black ones) look like Australorps. Ours aren’t nearly that easy to touch. They’re pretty skittish. The Barred Rocks are our little sweethearts. The Rhodies that were SUPPOSED to be Pullets (but decided to start crowing) are realizing their size and shape and are getting quite aggressive. If they keep that crap up, they’re gonna be try to figure out how to avoid becoming dinner.

yeah my daughter Matilda pretty much tamed em.

that girl Speckles is an English Sussex chook the others are Austrlorpe cross good hardy chooks that can withstand some heat.

that Speckles wouldn't let us touch her for quite awhile but Matilda persisted and eventually wrangled her into her arms. :D

my tip to tameing them release a bunch of 4-5 year old humans in the pen with them lol!

and if you don't have any handy every time you go in the pen try and catch em and pat them eventually they quit trying to run away and will just squat down for you.

We've had some rains and the yard long beans and egg plants are really enjoying it.
Seeded some peppers and planted out the root ends of spring onions.
Seems my soil is low in calcium, so been adding bits of agricultural lime. Esp the roma tomatoes needed it

My Romas got the blossom end rot a couple years ago. I read they need calcium and heard a good trick.I don't know if if they have Rolaids (stomach calming med tablets) in your neck of the woods, but putting a couple tablets under the plants when I planted them this year and I had beautiful Romas.

Anything medical here is difficult, but the leaf growth has improved tremendously with the agricultural lime added.
Got good hope for the tomatoes

We put the shells of eggs and oysters in our tomato bed to boost calcium. This Summer and last, we had great production from our Sungold cherry tomatoes. Last Summer, our San Marzano plant was very productive, but this Summer, not so much.

I was able to get some of the beds moved so I could install the stakes and fencing.
I should have calculated out the perimeter to see how much fencing I had, but I didn't.
I just guessed that the new space was about the same perimeter as the old circle garden. I ended up about 3' short. Good thing I had additional fencing in the barn.
All the posts are in, fencing attached and some of the soil moved. Also I created a trench to relieve the pooling low areas instead of putting in a drain pipe. I think that'll do the job.
Looks like we're in for some nasty weather, so I doubt I'll be out there much in the next few months.

Small correction I need to make
It was TUMS antacid tablets I used not Rolaids.
Oops...

I don't know either, so not a big thing.
I assume they are like rennies?

I looked at Rennies on line. It has two main ingredients. Tums only shows the Calcium Carbonate.

Pretty similar then....
Thanks
Rennies are relatively expensive. I'l check in the shop next time. If I remember
A 20 kg bag of lime is 2 dollar :)
