Brewing conpetition

Good work, man!!!:D
I'm sure that's very gratifying. Pilsner can be a tough nut to crack.
My beers will go on the judging table next Wednesday. I hope I can have something good to report from it.
Yeah it sure is a Good experience even taking part as a novice judge and filling out the score sheets is a learning curve. Good luck JA I'm sure you'll do great!

ok so got my hombrew competition scores in the mail today!

no placings but happy with how i went and feedback i got some good/some bad but thats what i entered for some unbiased feedback on me brews.

Best score was for saison which i was aiming on bettering my previous low 20's scores of past year with 36!
Some comments were more clove than fruit (luckily didnt put fruit addition in special ingredients but just yeast used) low hop lacks pepper spice, bannana peal background, weak carbonation..

My pils didnt score as well as last year which i knew it wouldnt as i rushed it and was 2 weeks old at comp bit didnt go as bad as i thought (i thinks its a little better now but yes not my best example). It got good Appearence scores even though just fresh out the keg with coments like Very clear, good head retention. But it lacked in complexity and lacked crispness and lacked malt and hop aroma but is too malty in flavour and a little sweet (maybe under attenuation ). Some time has helped with crispness but i think my mash schedule may need some attention and grain bill and maybe some more conditioning time in fermentor.

My Amber Lager went well got good points again on appearence mouthfeel but Flavour not as good with it being too sweet little hop flavour same in aroma with bjcp judge detecting "vegetal character" in aroma and flavour. His tips hard to read his handwriting is ensure a vigerous and complete fermentation and watch handling and ageing time to avoid oxidative edfects.

My IPA didnt go so well and i admit iys not my best example at thus style but ive only brewed it twice so therr is surely room for improvement. It was phenolic and astringent low hop aroma but pro brewer said slight infection issue high phenolic flavour present look at sanitation and yeast health.

Awesome stuff eh:p...
This is exactly what i wanted some unbiased expierenced feedback on my brews. I'll use this info going forward to try and better these beers especially my next IPA;).

Yep. Anything above 30 is a solid score and 36 is very good. Sounds like you got some good feedback as well.

Congrats man! I've medalled twice so far, bronze both times but it's been very interesting the feedback.

I hope you keep competing, it will definitely make you a better brewer, not that your not good already!

How many beers were in the comp?

Had 4 i knew some were ok some not so. I think my current ferm bucket may need renewing as per tge IPA brew it startrd off good and has really faded there is some infection in there either that or i remember it was first time i used me new coil could be somthing from that...

There is state comp this september ill be putting some beers forward for this. Ill be compeating in the HB comps as long as im brewing i love it;). Wanna work my way up as a bjcp judge one day too eventually:).

Congrats Trialben!!
We are on a similar track. I entered my first comps this year also. AHA National first round got a 29 on an IPA and a 35 on an IRA. Same scores respectively at our spring club event. Bottling is a pain. I used the picnic tap and wand method also.

Nice work and congrats again on the Pilsner. 39 - that’s cool man

Yeah that was the year before. They kept good carbonation except for mu saison which one said undercarbed hard to get it just like out the tap.
