What are you doing with homebrew today?

Setting up my new table for a double header tomorrow

Packaged 11 liters of Rauchbier OG 1.062 expected 1.050. Don’t underestimate what a decoction can do for efficiency. Finished at 1.010 sample tasted great. Just have to wait for conditioning now.

Packaged 4 liters of oatmeal stout that is severely under attenuated OG 1.062 FG 1.032 expected 1.012. Using Lutra for yeast. I think my mash got too hot and denatured early. Sample tastes good if a bit sweet. Force carbonating a 4 liter oxebar to see how it tastes completed.

I get a jump too. Friday my OG was 3 points higher even though my boil off was worse.

I've noticed very good conversion on my decocted wort but was afraid to bring it up and reignite the decoction debate

Today I am fighting a leaking keg. It loses pressure over 4-5 days. Even when completely disconnected. But soapy water shows no bubbles. I mean, there are only three spots for any leak; I am considering transferring to a different keg. I can do a totally-closed transfer with a little creative plumbing.

The oatmeal stout carbonated well, and the beer turned out tasty (not my best, but not a dumper either). Packaged the remains 7.5 l into an 8l oxebar.

After another long hiatus, I got something done in my brewhouse today. I cleaned my small keg, and put in 1.5 gallons of blended cider. There is a whole gallon of cider started January 5, fermented with Mangrove Jack cider yeast, and a half gallon left over from the previous batch with S-04 started on November 18 of last year. The keg is in my garage fridge, being force carbonated. Both batches exhibited a touch of effervescence.

On the beer side, I took a gravity sample of a Vienna Lager brewed on January 4. At this point, I still don’t have temperature control in my brewhouse, and the fermentation closet, like the rest of my home stays rather cool through the Winter. As such, there has not been any typical Diacetyl rest, but it has been in primary for 67 days. The sample had a “bready” aroma and flavor, which my wife approved of. Gravity was on target, so I am considering getting this beer into a keg soon.

Trying to think when I will have time to clean the keg. It kicked just now:( It was a damn good beer. Also need to find time to brew my NE Pale Ale.

I have PB cleaner in the keg now. I might order grain next week, and see what my Sundays look like after that. I really, really got spoiled with that last beer, and I don't like the feeling of not having homebrew.
