This recipe is my own creation, a hybrid of many different opinions (including https://byo.com/article/milk-stout-it-does-a-body-good/, https://beerandbrewing.com/session-stouts-big-flavor-in-small-packages/, https://beerandbrewing.com/make-your-best-sweet-milk-stout/, https://homebrewacademy.com/chocolate-milk-stout-recipe/, and http://scottjanish.com/case-brewing-oats/, among many others). My goal was exactly what's in its name: a chocolate milk stout that balances sweet and dry, but at session strength.
The wheat and oats are there to hopefully give it a bit more body and head retention.
I've tried this with cocoa powder in the past, and I don't recommend that. You need as much as 2 pounds, and it will form a very thick sludge at the bottom of the vessel. Cocoa nibs should provide substantially more chocolate flavor in lower quantities. If you bag them, you can even add it to the keg and leave it there.
The water adjuncts are obviously specific to my local water.
