Notes
1 oz of the fuggles was 1.5 yr old so I upped the amount to 2 oz.
In true WTF fashion I ended up adding too much water to the sparge and ended up with 6.5 gal in the fermenter. I started with a blow off hose immediately as I expect this fermentation to start off strong..
The OG was 1.084.
With an estimated FG of 1.025 that gives an estimated ABV of 7.74%.
Possibly add 1lb of dark brown sugar to boost that up to 8.66% (46 points into 6.5 gal (0.046/6.5=.007; .007+1.084=1.091
1/11/2019 Added 1 lb dark brown sugar disolved in 1/2 cup of water. gravity when I added the sugar was 1.024. OG was 1.084 giving ABV at the time of 7.88%
2/10/2019 bottled with 4.9 oz corn sugar (as recommended by brewers friend). this went into 5.73 gallons of beer. I also added about 1/4 pack of SF-05 (pack was 11.5g making this about 2.9 grams); bottled 59.75 bottles
FG was 1.024 giving ABV of 8.8%
OG was 1.084; plus 1 lb of brown sugar adds 46ppppg; 6.5/46 = 7 points; raises OG to 1.091 (1.084 + 0.007)
NOTE: turbinado listed above is actually dark brown sugar
TASTING NOTES
this is a dam dam good beer.
It’s under carbed, but I would change anything else.
I was aiming for a higher ABV, but I think about 7.7% is great. So I would adjust the recipe accordingly.
Other than that. 8.8/10. Dam good.
