Notes
8g S04 yeast. Rehydrated at about 30c.
This beer is inspired by Hobgoblin ale in the UK our local active volcano, Sakurajima. Wychwood describe Hobgoblin as a Ruby Ale, hence my borrowing of the term here. However, without EKG hops and British malts, it won't be a clone.
Sakurajima is the volcano in the profile picture. It is active, so the ruby colour is also nod to the lava that is due to come out of it soon...
Brewed on 26/11/2017. OG 1.050, so spot on, but with 8 litres, not 9. Can't have it all, nevermind.
just bottled on 20/12...took a long time to finish. With gravity readings ended up bottling 7.5 litres, 18 bottles of mixed sizes. All good though. Another two weeks and I'll be drinking it.
Very, very nice. Rich malty complexity with a little chocolate. Quite sweet, but not overly so. Very surprisingly close to Hobgoblin, only a little darker with roasted flavour. At only 11 days its not at its best either.
