25F outside
4:10pm- collected 4.7 gallons (per water requirement) with water filter from hose. Added campden. Began heating
4:30- 160F reached, put into mash tun to preheat. Lid on.
4:49- mash tun started leaking. quickly tried best to fix without burning hands. Added and stirred. temp was at 150F but dropped to 140F.
Started heating up 4.5 gallons to sparge with and raise temp.
*computer died from cold
5pm- mash dropped to 135F.
5:30pm- added 2 gallons at 170F. Brought mash up to 145F.
5:40pm- refractometer says 1.040 pre boil gravity
collected 4 gallons
Spraged (mash was only 130), with 4 gallons
total into boil kettle:
7.2 gallons
6pm- start heat for boil
6:30pm boil started
6:45pm 1 oz hops added
7:15pm- added whirlfloc, 1 oz hops, chiller
7:35pm- cut out heat. 6.5 gallons left (approximately 1 gallon/hr loss
7:45pm- chiller start, stirring a lot
7:55pm- 75F reached (AWESOME)
1.052 on refractometer
6 gallons after boil (.5 coiling loss- what %?)
hydrometer says 1.050
8:10pm pitched yeast at 64F
1 gallon trub
5 gallon into fermenter
