I brewed a little back in the mid-80's and somehow got out of it and never got back in until this year (2016). I dove in and tore through everything I could find on the internet to relearn anything I once knew and catch up on what homebrewing has been doing for the past 30 years.
After couple of years back on the learning curve, I've started to brew what seems to be kgood beer. I've won a number of club brewing competitions as well as medals in BJCP sanctioned competitions. A high point has been winning an invitational people's choice competition and brewing my beer in collaboration with Zilker Brewing in here Austin. I continue to refine my recipes and methodology and I really enjoy being part of the local and online homebrew communities.
UPDATE 2025...After brewing lots of big batches for parties and keeping up to 7 beers on tap pretty regularly, Things stopped pretty drastically in 2020. I brewed a few times through 2021 but found that my equipment was better suited to batches bigger than I needed, since big parties weren't part of the equation. Brewdays were just too much work to make it worth it. This year we brought our Winter Party back and I brewed for that and have gotten my system back up and running. I've gotten smaller fermenters that are better suited to making 10-gallon batches and split 5-gallon batches and brewdays are pretty manageable. I'll be able to keep a few kegs on tap and have one or two in waiting most of the time. I had gotten in the habit of buying beer regularly, but now I should be able to avoid store-bought. :)
