You know you did it wrong when...

When you decide to cold crash in the fermenter the day before racking to the keg and you leave the blow off tube in the starsan solution and the next morning you got suck back into the fermenter.. DOH! fortunately it wasnt much starsan but damn i feel dumb! Should have just waited until I transferred into the keg and then cold crash.

Brings me to something I've been wondering about...
If you use a blow off tube, how long those the pipe need to be and how far below the fermenter to not get suck back.

More of an explanation:
You got a blow off pipe going into a starsan or vodka solution. The pipe fills with CO2 during fermentation.
You could even have a long pipe sitting way below your fermenter.
Now how long does this pipe neeb to be and/or how far below your fermenter not to get suck bac

That's a good question

Basically you want the tube to be long enough that it will suck up all the liquid in the jar and start sucking air, which will make the liquid fall back in before it gets in your fermentor

Exactly.

My tube is about 40 cm, with a 12 mm inside diameter. It will hold about 45 ccs, about 1.5 ounces, so I leave the starsan level only 2-3 mm below the tip of the tube.

I take the tube out, bend it and crip, set my fermentor to 50ish, once reached I add back to star sans jar

At least your beer is sanitary. :D

Really stupid and confounding mistake... I was wondering why the hell my Dopplebock ended up at 2.23%. Found my old packing slip, and noticed I'd mistakenly ordered 6 lbs of Caramunich 2 instead of Munich Type 2. Doh! At least I finally figured it out.

Surprisingly, what was essentially an 86% caramel malt beer turned out to be a fairly drinkable session beer at least. Kind of more like a roasty Dark really Mild.

Could be worse but...
Trying to brew for the first time since moving and actually since last summer tomorrow. Just decided on a whim before the weather gets bad around here (which could be anytime). Figured I had the ingredients on hand to do my Steam beer. Found out when measuring my base grain that I was two pounds short on my 2-row so I grabbed what I thought was Maris Otter (more on that in a minute) and added 1.25 pounds (20oz) which was all I had and figured that would be good enough and even compliment it. Then I started milling but my mill kept seizing up and thought it was going to burn out my drill. So after a few minutes of trying to adjust the bill and back it up to then go forward I relented and took it apart while it was still full of grain and when I did a 10mm socket fell into my bucket. Not even the size I use to drive the mill so no clue where it came from.

Well then milled the base malt successfully and and went to refill the hopper with the rest of the bill. Well while I was looking for my Munich I found container with 2 pounds of Maris Otter. I thought "this is weird that I had two containers with that but I can top that off to 2 pounds" but before I did that I went to finish finding the Munich but couldn't. But then I looked at the container that held the original "Maris Otter" and saw it was labeled Munich type 1...
The Munich was going in anyways but I ended up with 8 extra ounces and it now makes up more of the grainbill than the caramel 60L. I'm sure it'll come out fine but I'm clearly a messo_O

I'm sure it will come out fine

I was adding co2 to my fermzilla since I was spunding and gravity didn’t drop enough, therefore less c02. I popped the top off so oxygen had to have gotten in. I kegged what I could but not enough open keg space. Oh well hopefully all is well. Dark mild

Fun continues today.
Was down to my last BIAB bag because my good mesh one broke on one of my last couple brews so I was stuck with this cheese cloth one that I hate because it doesn't drain properly compared to the mesh and it's a real workout between lifting and squeezing it. Well amidst all that fun it decide to start popping holes and spilling out grain on me. Made everything more fun. Was a bit low on my volume and gravity but I don't even care at this point. I'm fully in F*** it mode. I'm sure it'll be drinkable so I get the beer I get.
Also as I sit out here it is looking more and more like rain even though it's supposedly not supposed to rain till after 11pm (EDT)

No rain. Still came in with just under 5.5 gallons in the fermenter, seem to have a lower boil off rate with my new setup but looks like a lot of trub even with trying to filter it. Kept up my great streak by forgetting to put my carry straps on my fermonster to carry it across the room before I filled it but actually got them on pretty easily still. Maybe I'm not cut out for this:p
