What are you doing with homebrew today?

Bottled wheat beer and primitive cider.
I was going to make a 100% wheat beer, but then I suddenly thought that maybe I try my 2/3 wheat beer first ;)
Also put some more apple juice on the cider trub.
No homebrew for a week, as stock got finished

The missus is picking up some yeast at this very moment to make a 5 gallon batch of Black Currant wine from concentrate that she got from Amazon. At least it's a no-boil process, cause I don't wanna be out in the rain with the burner today.

Would have done my chocolate oatmeal stout a couple days ago, but it was still pretty cold and wet outside, and I had some kinda digestive bug that took me outta commission. Dunno what it was, but let's just say I couldn't be very involved in anything that I couldn't leave for a few minutes.

Felt better yesterday, but 50 year old plumbing in this house is necessitating some attention and upgrades, so had to get started on that. That's the other cargo the missus is bringing back from hardware stores.

I'll get my stout brewed eventually.

P.S. The Apricot wine we made before Xmas is YUMMY. And strong.

Making a starter for a German Pils to be brewed this weekend.... Working with one of those stainless steel plates on an induction cooktop.... SLOW! And incredibly inefficient. If my electricity wasn't coming off my rooftop, I'd have that sucker upstairs on the gas range by now. Just doing a conventional starter, 2.5 liters, 250g DME, stir plate until done, then in the fridge at pitch temperature. I'll decant it before pitching.

Planning to brew an English bitter (shocker I know) today or tomorrow. We were sent home at noon due to coming weather. Ups couldn’t make it, and I’m glad they didn’t try. I have some Northdown hops in that order I was planning to use. So I’ll try again tomorrow. I’d say we’ll be home. Supposed to be 12 F tonight and we will probably have 5 inches of snow by the time it stops.

I ended up abandoning the induction cooktop and moving upstairs to the gas range. That little stainless steel plate does not work.

I used one of those stainless steel hobs a lot on a little induction burner while remodeling the kitchen and it worked great. I have to get the roof rake out to dig out the solar array before I can have more power from the roof. <g>

Yep delivery delayed. If it doesn’t come tomorrow I’ll still brew but use challenger in its place.

I had a 3-liter Erlenmeyer flask on it... it may work better with a pan and all mine are induction ready.

I just checked a gravity sample on Dubbel Switch, my Belgian Dubbel brewed on 12/13/21. The aroma is modest in its esters, the color is about right, and the flavor is good. Measured 7.3* Brix, which converts to 1.008. Apparent attenuation 88%. It looks like bottling is in my immediate future.

I just finished bottling my Dubbel Switch, a Belgian Dubbel based on @AHarper recipe. This is the third time that I have bottled directly from the fermenter, a process that admittedly needs some work. I did not make enough priming solution to fill all of the bottles, or I just “eyeballed” incorrectly. For the 3 bottles that didn’t receive solution, I just dropped in a small bit of table sugar. I marked those 3 bottles with an X on the cap, and will segregate them while conditioning.

There is a definite “roasted” character to this brew, both in aroma and flavor. The sample has a really nice mouthfeel. At 7.74% ABV, this is a pretty big beer. We’ll see how it’s coming along next weekend, after a week in my relatively warm garage.

Monitoring. No big Krausen as usual but still slowly churning. Had to get it up to 70 before it did much. Wish my tilt was in there, it’s in my keg of Vienna Lager. Just to see some data not for accuracy of any kind.

Cleaning a keg and putting in an ingredient order at the LHBS. Hopefully brewing twice later this week.
