What are you doing with homebrew today?

I just received my scores from the Kolsch competition that I entered. I'm quite pleased with the results; it was my first time brewing the style. I got knocked for being overcarbonated and slightly oxidized, which I agree with. One judge gave me a 38/50 and the other a 39/50. Thanks to everyone on the forum for all the advice and answers! :)

So totally underestimated how hard you have to smack the Wyeast activator packs to actually activate it....
Feel kinda dumb thinking it was going to be activated. Oh well I just pitched it straight into my starter...

That's some great scores there Sunfire congratulations must of been some good entries.

Gravity on the Vienna is dropping, at about 1.015 this morning. Figured another day and I’ll let it warm up to low 60s. Perfect weather right now for temp control at my house.

Congrats! You'll get'em next time.

Pre-boil gravity on my California common is 1.048, target was 1.050. I solved the low mash temp issue but I might have swung it too far the other way. Finishing mash temp was about 160F. I think I might have it all figured out now though. Have to see how this turns out

Excellent!

Building a starter with the Belle Saison yeast I had in the fridge as it's the closest I have in stock for the community brew. It was dated last April and it took a bit to take off but I'm seeing krausen in the flask now so we'll see how it does in a day or two.

Maybe a Friday afternoon or Saturday morning brew.

Letting my Vienna lager get to low 60’s today. It will sit there until finished.
I am brewing an “Antwerp Ale” today. Using some S33 a buddy sent me :) it’s a little outdated so this should perk it up. Using old LME with some CaraMunich and victory malt. Hopefully my “starter” is a gallon and a half of beer :)

So an 'Old Antwerp Ale' then?

Well...I ended up using US05 at the last minute so it is now something else :) While I was boiling I was reading about S33 and decided i wanted to use something else for the community brew so I didn’t pitch the S33.

Kegged last Friday's brew (Cragunitas), had enough to also fill a small PET bottle. I had forgotten to add whirlfloc on brew day, so I dosed this one with some gelatin. Not sure how much it will clear up as I added a lot of hops during fermentation. I have it under 30 PSI now, will turn it down to 10 Saturday evening and have a sample on Sunday.
