After a bit of an interruption and sidetrack with bad weather, some family emergencies and all the hooplah that goes with that, I finally get to brew another batch. It's either brew some or buy it. Craft beer isn't exactly cheap to buy, and I'm kinda spoiled now with the good stuff. Don't really like any of the BMC stuff at all anymore, so I have to brew or do without. So today's brew is a Leffe Abbey Blond extract. I've always done this with all-grain, but wanted to knock a little time off the cycle. A 3 year old grandchild running around brew pots isn't very safe, and I prefer to let kids be kids, so doing what I can to let the little tyke be one by avoiding brewing while he's on the loose.
I thought our days of having toddlers in the house were over, at least for the ones that we can't fill up with candy bars and Mountain Dew and then give them back. But, just like 2008, this year's birthday present for the missus was another couple mouths to feed and more laundry and all that raising another grandchild entails. Her birthday present in 2008 was supposed to be a brand new Charger, but she got three grandchildren and a mini-van instead. Without all the sordid details of my family life, suffice it to say, one day I'm a monster, the next I'm the safe haven. Go figger.
So, hopefully emergencies settled, and my life is somewhat back in form so I can get back to doing at least SOME of the things I want to do, including brewing
Next up, New Glarus Spotted Cow. The missus is encouraging me to do a double brew day. Might not be a bad idea. Might have to try out one of the new beers she got for me, though. One is a pretty strong Scottish brew (Founders Dirty Bastard), the other a Thai beer (Singha).
