What are you doing with homebrew today?

Mashed in at 122 oF, hit the first temp of the decoction mash anyway...going to aim just a bit light on the decoctions and adjust temp with the heating element on the tun to avoid overshooting the steps.

Just added the first decoction back to the mash, pulled 6 1/3 pounds from the thickest portion(estimated 1/3) boiled 15 minutes, came in at 151 oF, 1 degree shy...and now we wait and let the enzymes do their thing.

Top pic is the 2nd Decoction, subtle color difference, just a tad darker.

My pre boil effeciency seems off though, 67% is a few points low for me, usually in the low 70s,

Odd, underestimated boil off with the extended boil, must have pulled a bad sample pre boil somehow, after diluting back down to expected gravity, was right at 74% brewhouse. Decotion seems to not have made a difference in efficiency.

Pretty much what I've found decocting more volume needed from more boil off and efficiency doesn't change much.
I hope it turns out how you wanted.

Well, got the color I was looking for, think I need to work on my lautering. Believe if i go to 2 smaller batch sparges, maybe add a grant. Grain bed seems to get a lttle over compacted.

Yesterday was a busy day.. Started out with making up a batch of pear wine (from a concentrate). Got done with that, and bottled up the black currant wine we had on. Finished that off, and then bottled the batch of rapier wit I had in the conical. Switched to half 24 oz bottles this time. A lot less bottling and I usually drink two of the 12 oz ones anyway. Will see how that works out. Scrubbed everything and sanitized it to get ready for a brew tomorrow. Time for another batch of LA Mud Puddle (Big Wave knockoff). Thin I'll try the first wort hopping this time, but might be good to know how that affects boil time. This one's all grain and very hoppy with citra and Galaxy. Substituting with

Changed plans to take advantage of fair weather, so the wife and I will be taking a hike today. Tomorrow there is a chance of rain, so I’ll be brewing my Belgian Pale Ale then.
I will enjoy a homebrew after hiking.
What, are you guys copying our weather or somethin'? Gorgeous day here today, but supposed to be rainy tomorrow.

Should be a quick ferment
I was actually a tad worried about the notty starter I didn't really see much of a krausen form on it but there was so much trub in it from last fermentation.

Anyhow it's in full swing now :)
I just can't see it anymore...
