refractometer ABV

So I want to learn to use my refractometer for FG not just during brew day. OG 1.050 (12.5brix) FG 1.012 (FG 3brix) =4.99%
All good.
BF refrac calculator tells me it’s 8%
1.050
3 brix
1.0 correction factor
8%

what am I doing wrong?

The FG in Brix should be what you saw in the instrument, not what you read from the hydrometer.

The calculator on this site works just fine, it's just annoying that it won't take measured gravity in specific gravity.
