Comet C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan–Atlas) from my front yard. A nice view of the comet over the village of Oberwil, Switzerland. Shot with an iPhone 15.

Great shot! I had to use the binoculars but Wifey and I saw it the other night along with a few satellites and a StarLink train that went right across the comet's tail! Quite a sight!

View out my office window of the the city of Basel with the ferris wheel for the Herbstmesse festival. This is a fall/harvest festival that has been happening here since 1471. The tower and smokestack in the front right corner of the picture is the old Warteck brewery, which is now a restaurant, as Carlsberg bought Warteck and stopped making beer so they could promote other national distribution brands.

Our event is about 400 years older than Oktoberfest, but quite a bit less fun from a beer drinker's perspective. Oktoberfest in Munich is something every beer fan should experience. Basel Herbstmesse is worth going to if you are in town, but not something worth a special trip, unless you have a passion for mulled wine, raclette, and kirsch.

So in Munich they have German Herbstmesse. Oder etwas aenlich.

I have to go to St Augustine to see cool, old stuff. Beautiful picture, but I would miss walking around my neighborhood after work when it is 80 degrees outside in October:)

But what about the storm? High fast winds, roller coaster waves? Probably got up to at least 15 knots.

We had that show in syndication when I was a child. It was dubbed in Swiss German dialect. It was on right after "Our Little Farm", which was called Little House on the Prairie or something similar originally in the USA. I remember speaking English well enough as a kid to know the translated name in Swiss German for the show and the English title card name were not the same.

I remember my father asking why the castaways didn't simply murder Gilligan. He was the reason their rescues always failed, and they could just kill him and then report that he was lost at sea or died from some tropical disease, and get off the island.

Then what? Call it "Howel's Island"?

I believe his contention was that will Gilligan dead, he could no longer ruin the chance of rescue every week and everyone else could get off the island. The Howells included.

Oh I got his point but the advertizers have paid a lot of money to make sure the don't get off that island for a couple years.

I suppose they could have just hitched a ride back to town with the film crew.
