Back suck and cold crashing and physics

With the talk about suck back during cold crash I thought I would show a short demo.
I had a beer ready to cold crash a day or two ago. so I made this video.
I had to drill another hole in the back of my fridge for the hose, hit a coolant line but did not puncher it.
OOOPS!!!!
I use a one gallon zip lock bag, wasn't enough. I think the bag jerking at the end is the vacuum
created breaking as it finds a way to suck air.

Nice video!

I would not think a gallon would be enough.

Whoa! Maybe with less head space a gallon would do? Great video indeed!

With the talk about suck back during cold crash

Nice video on how the cold crash will cause a vacuum. I use a hose running into a jar of star san for my blow off tub on my fermenters. When I checked my first brew after I had started a cold crash on it I found my clear tub filled half way up with star san. I connected a CO2 connection to the fermenter, opened the valve, and injected CO2 to remove the vacuum. Since then I have started to put a few pounds of pressure on the fermenter before cold crashing. The bag of CO2 would be a great fix if you cannot pressurize your fermenter.

I do the same. Just be aware that even 3 psi will carbonate your beer somewhat, and you should de-gas the sample before using a hydrometer. A couple shakes will be enough.
