Need roughly 20.5 gallons of water, 14.5 in mash plus about 6 for sparge. Estimate about 6 gallons absorbed by grain, so this should leave about 14.5 left for boil. Only need 13 for pre-boil volume, so could reduce amount of sparge water by 1.5 gallons, but best to be safe. This will give a 1.25 qt/pound ratio during mash. To do a more effective sparge, could use 8-10 gallons and then just do a longer, more vigorous boil. |
