Notes
This recipe is a modification from Evan Altman's "Hair of the Goat Rauchbier"
http://www.brewersfriend.com/homebrew/recipe/view/37492/hair-of-the-goat-rauchbier
From Evan's original description:
"Smoky and rich, with a blend of noble hops for balance and flavor, this is going to be a great beer to share while commiserating the season gone by and look forward to next Spring."
My own immediate modifications from the original recipe
- switched to 6lb LME Munich (instead of using 5lb Munich DME and 1lb Light DME)
- swapped hops 'domestic hallertau' with 'Hallertauer Mittelfruh'
- shop was out of Carapils - so used half the weight of a Caramel 40 as a replacement (if I recall weight correctly)
- toned down the hops a bit - basically reduced by 25% for the hops added during boil - kept dry hop amt original
This is a monster on
- steeping grains
- hops
