Notes

2/2/19: Brew day for this one. Our first Rauchbier, though it's not our first rodeo with smoked malt. Anyway, this is intended to be a mostly-to-style Bamberg-esque smoked lager. Kinda straightforward. Hoping for solid smoky flavor and a clean profile.

Adjusting the recipe a little bit on the fly. The original settings were 70% BHE, 6 gallon boil, 5 gallon collect, with Brewer's Friend estimating a 4.8% beer (1.055 OG -> 1.018 FG) when all's said and done. We have new HERMS tubing which should increase efficiency, and Pat thinks we'll be in the high 80% range, so the collection rate will likely be changed a bit. Just writing it down here to keep things consistently documented. Also still not quite sure how good we are at lagers, but we're pitching 3 packages of WLP838 for primary. BF estimates 72% attenuation, but who knows.

Edit: we ended up with 82% BHE. Kind of in the middle of what I guessed (lowballed, more like) and what Pat thought we'd get with the lower gauge tubing. That worked out quite well, so we're pretty pumped about the change.
