Notes
Problems from the start. I put too much water in for the mash Brewer's Friend recommends 6gal for 16lbs of grain. I used the graduated lines on the BEMB to 6. The mash was difficult due to too much water. Next time need to check the accuracy. Need to do 5 gallons at mash and 3 or 3.3 on sparge. Before boil gravity was 1.045. I added 1.5Lbs DME, boiled for 90min instead of 60 and rechecked the gravity with 20min left. I was at 1.060 when the target was 1.069. After calculations I added 7oz of DME. FG before pitching was 1.075. Next time need at least 1 gallon less.
entered into contest Aug 2018. 24/50, 19/50. Thought acrid taste from too much black/dark malt. next time reduce black malt.
