Notes
Brewed March 2018. This recipe turned out very sweet, with almost no bitterness. Next time I would add some more bitterness, and maybe a later hop addition to add some flavor instead of just bitter. Maybe add a half ounce of hops split between 60 mins and 15 mins. It was also a tad dark for an irish red. I might reduce some of the crystal 80. The roast/caramel malt flavor balance was good so try not to change the malt bill significantly.
Brewed 2019 test version: changed the recipe in the following ways: added hop additions at 30 and 15 to add some more bitterness and offset the sweetness. Also dropped the C80 and roasted barley to 3 oz from 4 oz to make the color a bit lighter and reduce overall sweetness.
Brewed Jan 2020. Used 3.5 oz of the C80 and roasted barley to match the 11 gallon version from last year.
