Notes

Changes from the original recipe

Veganized! A few things were done to make this happen:

  • Lactose was removed. In place of this, I have added maltodextrin (same amount as the lactose)
  • Pure Vanilla Extract has been added, to help add more flavor with the lack of lactose
  • Added 16oz of oat milk. Probably going with unsweetened unflavored, I don't need extra sugar and don't want any other flavors. This is experimental, some random guy on the internet says he had good results, so I figured I might as well give it a shot
  • Upped the Honey Malt from .15lb to .35lb. I don't want to overpower anything, but this should help with the body and sweetness
  • Honey (not the malt obviously) was also removed, and not replaced
  • Added a small amount of Xylitol to get back more of the unfermentable sugars that are being lost due to removing lactose

I also added Clarity Ferm to this beer. I am gluten sensitive, and this stuff seems to work great for me. Supposedly it shouldn't affect the haziness, but we'll see what happens!

Save 1 gal of mash volume to pour over the bag (basically sparge) at the end if doing BIAB, and stir a few times during mash. Also, get grains double milled. Consider mash out (168F for 5 mins)?. The original efficiency for this recipe is 85%, which is difficult (from what I understand) to hit without a few extra steps on BIAB.

A lot of what I changed is experimental, I had to do a lot of searching and reading to figure out what changes would probably work. But that's what makes it fun! I will update once this is finished with how it went and how it tastes!
