Notes

Boil chips first, soak in bourbon (Maker's) for a day or two, then add after primary has completed.

notes above from original creator. looks to be same recipe as northern brewer bourbon porter kit. changes i am making. volumes to accommodate 5 gal batch. chocolate malt from 425l to 350l (which i have). black patent malt to maybe black malt (will have to check to see what i have).

1.10.2021 - soaked 75 ml of makers mark in .75oz toasted oak cubes. From Wednesday - Sunday. Put bourbon and oak cubes in 1 gal carboy and racked 1 gal of porter into it. Did same in another carboy but added 1.75 tsp of vanilla extract (homemade). Bottled the rest and got 21 bottles of beer.

1.18.2021 - so far the porter has turned out great. kind of a 'harsh' taste what i would think to be from black malt (which i was going for). tastes great

2.5.21 - bourbon porters taste great. only sampled one of vanilla bp's and it was interesting. not overly vanilla at all. not sure if its muted the bourbon or not. bourbon flavor has a very oaky taste to me.
