Notes

The nose is very strong with roasty, chocolate, coffee notes. With an indistinct fruityness maybe cherry behind a molasses-y layer. Not very strong in the hops or smoke departments.

The head is tan-brown with medium retention. Silky mouthfeel, with low-medium carb. Very deep brown/amber colour body.

The flavour is exceedingly complex, the first note is roasty caramel flavour that fades to a light chocolate sweetness. The next wave has a plumy, raison flavour, combined with a slight smokey dryness and just the lightest/almost imperceivable heat. Alcohol level is balanced, maybe an edge of heat to it.

Overall the beer is very pleasant, the chocolate and pepper flavours are weaker than I hoped. I would suggest maybe adding more chocolate malt or some cacao nibs.
