Moving strike h2o from kettle to mash ton temp dropped approx 20 degrees. Waited for kettle temp to drop to 171. (Instructed to wait for temp to drop to 169). Mash was initially at 159 degrees. 7 degrees above target temp. Used half gallon of cold water to drop temp. Temp didn't drop, then I put in a gallon of cold water, and temp dropped 15 degrees (145). Then added 1 gallon of boiling water to get mash temp up to 151 degrees. Drained 2 gallons of wort out to use with sparge water per instruction from Home Brew Shop.
FUTURE NOTE: When adding cold water to cool down mash, less is more. Take your time add a little cold water at a time to get the temp to drop slowly and only a little at a time! |
