Hmm... dont remember too much of this one... except that it was my first beer using the new boiler. Full boil, went really well, didnt take too long to get to a rolling boil and stuff. Made crap loads of steam, so boil-off was much higher than expected so the fermenter volume is much lower than expected. Good name though... |

Worked out why the volume was so low; it wasn't boil off or anything that went wrong on brewday, it was the bloody recipe composition! The final volume setting is on "kettle" rather than "fermenter". Annoying.
Also explains the strength issue, as the recipe was expecting 20 liters in the fermentor. 17L wort + 3 L water is probably around 1.045. Grrr...
Actually, having used a calculator, it is still around 1.051! Too efficient again?

One important thing that i remembered! This isnt nottingham yeast, its neales (malt miller) yeast. And it was originally used for another beer, so it is second generation. After a day it was massively active and a thick layer of trub had formed. |
