Mashed in with 4.2gal with 8lb 2 row at 153. Ended up at 144. Less water, more temp loss. Remember for next time. |

So, it appears that Brewer's Friend has deceived me. Obviously, I have a gallon more than I need, and my pre-boil gravity is lower than I wanted. So, I'm gonna give this guy a full hour boil to get the gravity up. And add the sugar. I do think I converted better by theoretically tightening the gap on my mill (I winged it instead of taking it apart to measure like they want you to), and by sparging with two gallons. I guess we'll reformulate and see what these changes bring next time. |

Definitely need to do some equipment profile tweaking for next time. Gotta get this nailed DOWN! But, in the end, it will be stronger than last time, with no bittering hops. These are what I think improved things the most.Ended up with like 4 gallons, but only added 3.75 to the fermentor.
Testing out the new kegmentor this time around. The extra volume might help get brighter beer out. |

Floating dip tube issues, so I didn't get a full 2.5 gallons. At least 2 tho...
Fuck, forgot a gravity reading! I was too focused on getting the closed transfer correct. |

Much better, I think. Gone is any lingering bitterness in the aftertaste plaguing my IPAs. I think that comes from the 60 minute boil. Great in Westies. Not so much in Hazies.
Very pale. Aroma is a little muted, but smells of sweet citrus, like a tangelo. Still a little under carbed. It first hits the tongue a bit crisp, and then washes through waves of fruit juices. A little orange, a little pineapple, and even a bit of the classic orange rind. Finishes a bit fizzy with some lingering overripe juice notes.
All in all, quite an improvement on the classic recipe. This was the first closed transfer to cut down oxygen as well. I'm curious to see how it evolves. I think it's quite good! Might be done tweaking this recipe! Stamp it done!

1 week in, and it's much more mellow and melded. I like it. Nice tropical aroma, and sweet hop fruit punch. A bit lingering... But very good. |
