Lost a bit in a few boil overs, or would have been closer to 80 in efficiency |

Great brew day, great conversion on a fairly fine grind, low conversion at 148F with a raise to mashoff at 170. Lauter was a little rough, dome finer valve control would be good. But didn't leave a lot of extract in the mash so I'm pleased with the end result. Slightly increased the hop load to try and combat the boil overs. Had a very large fluffy head over the boil for the first 20 minutes, difficult to control heat with my burner setup, so tried a few more grams of hops to hope the oil would knock it down, and lost some hop in the first boil over. I reckon its about the same amount all said and done. Cooling was very effective. And drained the kettle to try and make up for some loss with so little hop trub. Had a fairly small pile aside. Not showing a ton in the fermenter so I'm pleased with the whirlpool and water push. Pitched 1 pack of dry Lallemand London English Ale yeast. And a small vial of Liquid yeast, same culture, from a previous experiment. Should have a lot of body left in the beer with the inability to ferment maltotriose, low temp thick mash, and dextrins from the flaked barley. Looking forward to this beer |
