I've brewed ales on 9 occasions previously over the years, mostly successes. I recently unearthed my gear, cleaned it and I'm back at it. I used to stand around drinking & talking, I suppose is what I was doing, but stopped when the 24/7 life safety on-call job became too busy to ever actually be in a state of 'having had a beer.' Moved on from 7 years of that job now, might have an opportunity to relax at some point on the horizon. To that end, I want to have beer on hand, primarily to offer guests but also perhaps to partake of myself, every once in awhile. I am now interested in making approaching 7% alcohol content, but hopefully under 150 calories. I also want to brew beverages of some kind that utilize the many wild berry and fruit that grow wild and quite nearby.
A guy across the lake still has several of my last batch, in his barn fridge. A red ale, mostly grain, about half kit. That's all that survives, if they do. Was a warm-up zinger of a beer. I'm making a simple pale Ale recipe next, with a bit of something else, haven't decided yet. I'm trying the 1.5 gallon kegs, I'll bottle any remainder in some 11.2 oz. guinness bottles, that's the plan at this point.
