Many forums suffer from spammers posting obvious links, to get you to click on them.

But that doesn’t happen here. Not often at least. What we get is spammers posting ‘stupid’ messages, vaguely offering a vaguely-relevant comment, just a sentence or two. Often quoting someone else’s post.

Why?

Search engines rank websites by how many different sites link to them. So, for example, to get Brewer’s Friend to list at or near the top of a search for ‘beer forum’, the goal would be to put links to here on as many different web pages as possible.

The spammers we get here hide links in their messages, using a few different clever techniques: white text, links hidden in quoted text, and more. Whatever, now the link to the site that is paying them for “search engine optimization” gets counted, helping them to get closer to the top.

Spam.

If you see what might be this kind of spam, please click the “Report” link at the bottom left of the post, tell us your suspicions, and we’ll handle it. Thanks.

Y'all seem to do a pretty good job on that front.
I was going to be a smart ass and tell you I thought they were posting looking for Moose and Squirrel:)
