Hi,
I recently bought a Tilt and tried it for the first time in a hefeweizen. Before I used it I calibrated it in water, and then calibrated it against the wort that I had measured the OG with a hydrometer tube. I then plopped it in the fermenter and set it up to upload data to the spreadsheet.
It's been 4 days now and the Tilt is still reporting the same gravity, it hasn't changed at all. The temperature reading fluctuates, but the gravity remains constant. I took a manual reading today, and the gravity has dropped from 1.046 to 1.020, so it is fermenting.

Any ideas what can be wrong here?

Are you sure it is reporting?

How do you have it connected?

It will only report if the device it connects to has the tilt2 app open (unless you use tiltpi with an Rpi device)

It is connected to an ipad with 4G, with screen and app always on. I can see the temperature values fluctuate in the spreadsheet.

Ok, then the unit is functioning. Have to rule it the simple stuff first. :p

I would say it is one of three things.

1) the tilt is stuck up against something. Hop bag? Cooling coil? Etc?

2) it is possibly defective. If it relays temp changes but not gravity changes.

3) something got on the tilt (krausen) and it is permanently 'tilted' i have had that happen, but it ussualy still reads changes, they just aren't accurate.

Wait till this batch is finished, when you open the fermentor look at the tilt and see if it has stuff crusted on it. After that put it in clear water again and verify it reads 1.000. Then add some table sugar and see if it read properly.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried rocking the bucket in case it was stuck in something, to no avail. I will test it when it is done fermenting.

If you can, use the Tilt app to connect to it directly using bluetooth. It reports about every second. Then jiggle/slosh the fermenter a but, the tilt angle will definitely change and you will see it.
