Howdy, on 11/14/24 I brewed my first batch of More Beers Shallow Grave Porter. This is my 5th porter. I turned this into peanut butter porter, which I've done in the past. All numbers were good and I added 20 oz of PB2 powder. Which again I've down several times. Brew came out very thick like molasses or maple syrup. I bottled this anyway to see if it may settle after a bit. Opened a bottle today,12/4/24 and still very thick and stringy. Any thought
Thanks,TJM

What was the consistency before the pb2 powder?

Pb2 powder i believe has a bunch of protein powder in it to thicken whatever you put it in.

I wouldn't have bottled it, leave it in the fermenter if it needs that much clarification.

Since I had no prior info on this I made a decision to bottle. Point of this discussion is what could have cause this
Thanks

Others may chime in, I think the pb2 powder did it

I think so too, or maybe mash temperature.

Does it tastes okay?
You say you have made the Porter recipe before. So if you did everything the same and the only difference is thr peanutbutter addition, then it gotta be the peanut butter

Very much appreciate the responses. I've made the same recipe 5 times with different porter kits. Not pointing fingers or implying anything. I'm the brewer and I must have missed something. No it's not drinkable. Being stubborn I plan on opening another bottle in 30 days. If it's the same maybe my garden will appreciate it. I'm looking at this as one of life's big mysteries. This is my first flop in 7 years of brewing
Thanks again everyone

Dumped several in my day, but the garden vegetables always appreciated it. Onwards & upwards with another brew.

The wort didn't seem thick prior? Did you take a gravity reading. My biggest concern is if it is thick from sugar you may have bottle bombs.

This will definitely change the amount of starter I make, looking forward to you sharing your results.

Not exactly sure why this came out the way it did. Didn't see anything unusual until bottling day and by than I was bottling and on the 3rd bottle my wife said it seems kind of thick. At this point I had to decide to stop or continue so I continued. This is only my 2nd flop in 7 years. Not losing sleep but it is a mystery. Anyone have experience with the PB flavorings out there
Thanks

You likely have a bacteria infection from Pediococcus. It can cause a thickness in the beer before becoming thin again. Milk the Funk has an article about it.

"Ropy" or "sick" beer is more viscous and, in extreme circumstances, can form strands"
