Hi
Im trying to shorten all grain brewday
Im thinking of mashing 5kg of grain in 12,5 liters of water, then top up with 15 liters of cold water after boil (23 liters in fermenter).
Has anyone tried this ?
Any thoughts ?
Thanks in advance

I think it would work ok. It's just the all-grain analog to doing an extract batch with top off water, so why not? Your mash will be kind of thick, but not overly so.

Yeah, a bit more hops needed but I dont see any reasons why it wouldnt work, time will tell.
Im also mashing for 30mins and 30min boil which have turned out just as good in previous brews.
Using Lutra Kveik makes the whole process quick.
Thanks for reply :)

Add long as you have enough water so your mash doesn't get too thick, it would work.

@Sunfire96 would have an opinion i am sure

It would be fine. I used to do this every brew until I got a bigger kettle. I did add extra hops. I mashed for 60 and boil 60 though

Shouldn't be an issue. Make sure you're using a recipe calculator to do the math on expected gravity and IBUs. And no worries on a short boil, I do 30 minute boils every batch. I typically do a 60 minute mash for full extraction, but I'd you're okay with lowered efficiency than it won't matter either. Good luck! Let us know how it turns out

Yes. Your brewhouse efficiency will suck. Estimate about 53%, but could be plus or minus another 10%.

Any concerns about the sterility of the added 15L of cold water? Remember, you want the yeast to take over and ferment the wort and not anything else so be sure that your cold water is bug free too! How will you ensure that?
How much time are you really going to save and is the juice gonna be worth the lack of squeeze?

Which has most likely been pasteurized or treated some how.
