Well it all started with a broken hydrometer. Dropped it beginning of last brew, no problem, keep a spare in the cabinet. Noticed my OG was low, but had kind of a wonky mash schedule so I didn't think much of it. Fermentation seemed normal, but hydro reading showed 88% attenuation with WLP800. Assuming the slurry I used must have been contaminated, i dumped and bleached everything.

Sample didn't smell or taste off though...checked the hydro with some distilled water it's off about 5-6 points...adding those would get me to around 77-78%.

Guess I'll be using Mauribrew 497 today.

Shame man, luckily you have a plan B

Aww damn!

Maybe I can learn from this and make a pledge to at least try it before dumping. If it does not taste foul, see if I get sick.

Didn't dump the beer, just the yeast that was in the fermenter(was going to reuse the yeast cake today.

Ah. Ok. Good.

I would never think to check my yeast or a starter gravity. Perhaps I should start.
Well, I more or less knew the beer in the fermenter was done working, brewed it 2 weeks ago. So I just pulled a sample and kegged it. just didn't bother to check the gravity until I was finished. The original plan was to fill it right back up with a fresh batch of lager. On the plus side, 497 is a pretty versitile yeast. It'll still make a good beer, just a touch drier(although it'll probably be DONE in 6-7 days, so at least it's faster).
