Has anybody else noticed the prices of yeast is going up and the availability is going down? I used to save yeast and pitch it multiple generations but stopped doing that for some reasons. One being the availability of good dry yeast. Liquid yeast is even more expensive and then I need to do work to build it up or buy multiple packets. I might as well go back to building up dregs. Just my morning rant

I use dry yeast and found the cheapest place is Amazon - often in multiple pack deals, but much cheaper than any of the homebrew stores! I do agree the price has risen substantially over the last couple of years!

I buy yeast about twice a year, liquid yeast, and anticipate what I might need. I always do IPAs so will buy a good yeast for that. My favorite is WLP001, but it's outrageously expensive now so I've been going with Wyeast 1217 as my new favorite. Then I may be an English strain or a lager yeast, depending on my plans.

I just save the yeast and use for the next 6 months or so in new batches. It's tough to believe that yeast now costs more than the grain I use!

Well I don't like shopping Amazon more than I have to but maybe I'll put in a bulk order before I cancel prime the minute the last Thursday night football broadcast ends.

Pricing is about the same as Label Peelers. Label Peelers is free shipping on yeast. I didn't find much on Amazon

I’ve found Rite Brew is the cheapest and best source of yeast. Fast, fresh and cheap.

https://www.ritebrew.com/

I love Ritebrew.com! I buy almost all my stuff from Neil, but he doesn’t carry White Labs. I don’t like the Omega version of the chico yeast, so I’m getting Wyeast when I can.

He charges actual shipping or a flat rate, whichever is cheaper. I buy wine yeast from him, and he’ll stuff them in a first class envelop. I wish I could get the SpeeDee shipping, which is really inexpensive, but it doesn’t cross the border to me in the UP>

I may be doing something wrong but just for kicks I built an order for 20lbs of grain on ritebrew and they want $23 shipping . Can't see that

I purchase yeast from SOCO brewing out of Austin, TX. Cheapest shipping I've found. I usually use one yeast 3 or 4 times before I dump it. I collect the yeast slurry off the bottom of the fermenter and rematch the whole thing back into the next batch I want to use it in. I do believe the price has gone up. I only use dry yeast.

I'm going to guess that 1) the shipper was UPS and 2) you are outside the area of the regional shipper that RiteBrew uses.

Jus tried again mocked up an order for over $50 to get the discount but it was UPS and still $19 and change. I use a few different suppliers and usually load up the shopping cart and go with the cheapest. I never needed to pay shipping. I'm not sure what you guys are ordering but the base grain offering is quite limited

The yeast is a good price though. I'm going to try and build an order for yeast see what they charge

Ok updating the yeast prices are good enough to offset the $4 shipping so thanks I'll use them for yeast but grains I'll have to use someone with a better variety

He’s got a boatload of grain- I order whatever I’m looking for. I don’t pay that much shipping- maybe it’s the ‘over 10 pounds’ discount(?) or something. But I haven’t ordered much grain lately so maybe that’s changed.

if you order 5 pounds at a time and it equals up to 50, shipping is cheaper, they can ship in multiple boxes and no upcharge from the shippers

Yeah I agree full sacks are expensive to ship. I used to have a couple shops close to me and I could get full sacks. They closed so now I order on line which actually is fine since it is easier to get a variety. I used to substitute a lot because of what I had on hand. I do order now 5 or 10lb bags and get cheaper shipping. Since most of my orders are over the $60 I get free shipping

The cost of shipping depends on how far away one is from RiteBrew. And there's the regional shipper option.

For those who can use the regional shipper, full bags seem to be a good approach. This is today's cost for shipping one 50# bag to 55113 (Roseville MN).

To get a feel for the differences in shipping costs, try these zip codes:
* 54229 (Green Bay WI)
* 55113 (Roseville MN)
* 29653 (Hodges SC)

Well More.beer ships free from Cali me in CT if you spend over $59. Williams Brewing in Midwest some place does the same and $7.99 flat if your bellow $59. AIH is east cost and they ship free if yo spend that amount as well. I use all three very rarely pay for shipping. Plus ritebrew doesn't have weyerman that's odd
