Hello.

My name is Pal and I am a Norwegian guy from Stockholm married to a Portuguese lady who has picked up brewing again after 15 years of silence. I'm a communicative guy, I write far too long entries in forums, and I look forward to interact with you, to learn from you, and hopefully give something back from my experience.

Why am I returning? Well, the break wasn't my choicd. My kids moved into the brewery, then in-laws occupied it. Fair enough, the brewery is a small apartment in the basement of my house. I reclaimed it this winter howeve and it's now brewery and distillery, basically a man cave. I brushed off my old Braumeister 20L from 2012 from cold storage, never thought it would work, but lo and behold, the workhorse still has it in him. My first brew is going to be a Kentucky Common - brewday on Friday.

That's a little about me. Let me know if you have any questions or so. I hope you will receive me in your community!

With kinds regards / Pal

Welcome. Several years ago my wife and I took a cruise that included a couple of stops in Norway. Beautiful country you live in.

I agree. That is an awesome choice!! If that is the type of stuff you do, I'll get geeked out to learn:) I was in a local brewery almost every Sunday this winter drinking one of those. I damn near cried when it ran out, well, until they made a Dunkel:)

Heyyathere Pal! Welcome back...are you going to add some local flavor to that Kentucky Common with some Kveik?

Welcome Pal! What's the homebrewing community like in Stockholm?
It's big. Over the last 15 years it has really grown. When I started it was a select group of homebrewers, the Swedish homebrew association reeked of nepotism. But now there's so many people brewing and many who try to go pro. The problem in Sweden is the regulations regarding selling alcohol. All the microbrewers lack outlet for their products and there are still too few bars and pubs that sell the smaller brewery's beers. This last year saw a lot of micro breweries go belly up.

Absolutely, you got it! I am in love with Hornindal kveik yeast but I am not sure if it's going to overpower the Kentucky Common with too much esters and stuff. I am pondering if I should play safe and go with a Voss kviek instead, it's more neutral tasting, will give more room for the malts to shine. I love these types of headaches though, the best part of homebrewing! And if I know myself, I'll go with Hornindal in the end anyway. Lol.

Thank you! Norway is truly beautiful. I went to the very north, around Tromsö if you know where this is, with my family and parents this summer. This is where my father's family comes from and because of his age he's not be back up there for many years. Midnight sun, temps around 22C, which is a sauna in northern Norway, the fjords lying still like a mirror. It was magical. But it's just silly expensive in Norway, you literally need to rob a bank or something to buy a cup of coffee.
