Late additions effect on ABV

Am I correct in thinking that late additions of sugars, added near the end of fermentation, are not accounted for in the usual way of calculating alcohol by volume?

For example, if I had a half pound of sweetened coconut shreds and 2 ounces of sugar (Hershey's syrup, actually) that certainly isn't accounted for in the OG and it's probably throws the FG off a bit.

This means my calculation of 6.4% is probably a bit low. Or??
 
You can estimate what the OG would have been if you had added the sugars at the end of the boil. That will get you close to the ABV.
 
if you are kegging it, it will still eat the sugar and raise the ABV.

if it is bottles, dont use priming sugar and put them somewhere safe :D
 
In my experiences, if it’s fermentable and you have any viable yeasts, it’s gonna ferment given enough time.

True that. Treat them as fermentables added pre-boil, you'll get the right result.
 
Those are adjunct additions that should be added to the ingredient list in the calculator and as such will be reflected in the OG and FG. If you add fermentables above and beyond what you've accounted for in the recipe, they'll definitely throw off your numbers. It's not hard to adjust your recipe to include the ingredients and you'll get an accurate estimate.

I only keg, no bottling here.
