I am new to all grain. I have a 10 gallon Rubbermaid cooler with a false bottom and a spigot.
I brewed with it once and used 10 lb of grains. first put in 4 gallons of water at 167F to get 154F in the mash tun.
then after 60 min drained it then put in 5 gallons of water at 178 to get 165F for 15 min.
the beer turned out nice.
I got BeerSmith recently and was trying to figure out the different Mash settings that it has. This all got me confused as to what to do.
was hoping that someone out there would guide me.

this website will tell you based on any recipe, first set up a profile for your mash tun in equipment settings , , when you brew first edit the recipe and click the more tab and make sure your profile is selected, after that you can view recipe tools and quick water requirements should tell you every thing you need to know

Keep doing the simple mash procedure you tried (called single infusion) until you're comfortable with it, then you can try more complex stuff like multiple rests (holding the mash at a certain temperature for a period of time). Do the same brew a few times and make sure you're getting the same results (the same taste, within reason). That way you are certain of your process when you try to branch out into more complex stuff.

thanks guys.
Nosybear I agree, I will do the mimumum until I figure things out.
Been messing with BeerSmith and getting more used to it, it seems to have a few things that can be improved, like the grin list it seems to be lacking some. Or is it me?
I have been using Brewers Friend for some time now and kind of like to use it.
Brewhut 2nd Sunday...right Nosybear?

First Sunday evening - May 3rd is Big Brew Day, there won't be a club meeting next week. I'll be out of town - hate to miss it!
